Chongxian (T 22.02)

Location

The Master Tung Acupuncture point, T 22.02 Chongxian, is on the thenar eminence, between the first and second metacarpal bones, 1 cun below Chongzi (T 22.01), 2 cun from the skin fold. It is exactly on the opposite side of Linggu (T 22.05), which is on the dorsal aspect of the hand.

Indications
Primary: 

Upper back, neck, scapular, and interscapular pain

Secondary: 
  • Knee pain (especially the medial side on the SP channel)
  • Common cold, flu, fever, cough, asthma, pneumonia, difficulty expectorating sputum
  • Palpitations, tachycardia, hypertension
  • Finger stiffness

Techniques

Needle perpendicularly 1 cun.

  • Deep needling tends to produce better results.
  • Needle contralateral to the affected side when treating pain. When treating everything else, needle the side of Chongxian (T 22.02) where there is more pain upon palpation.

This point can also be bled.

  • Blue veins in this area indicate poor digestion or pain of the neck/shoulder/scapular area as this general area is reflective of the Stomach and the neck/shoulder/scapular areas.
