- Use Dr. Tan’s Balance Method accordingly as determined by where the pain is (use mirror or image system). If the pain is in the big toes, needle around the thumb. If the pain is in the knees, needle the elbow. Needle the ah shi points.
- Needle the opposite side of the pain. If the pain is bilateral, needle bilaterally.
- Knee: Quchi (LI 11) and all ashi points nearby, Shaohai (HT 3), Quze (PC 3) Chize (LU 5), Shousanli (LI 10) thread to Quze (PC 3), Xiaohai (SI 8), Xinmen (T 33.12)
- Ankle: Needle ashi points from Yangchi (TH 4) to Waiguan (TH 5), from Lieque (LU 7) to Taiyuan (LU 9), Daling (PC 7), from Yangxi (LI 5) to Pianli (LI 6)
- Foot and toe pain : Needle opposite side hand and finger images. For example, left lateral toe pain on the metatarsal phalangeal joint, needle right lateral metacarpal phalgeal join on the thumb.
- Knee Pain: Bilateral - needle all ah shi points on the yin channels on both elbows. If there are no ah shi points, place two needles on each yin channels on both elbows. Needle should touch tendon or bone.
- Ankle Pain: Bilateral - needle all ah shi points on the yin channels on both wrists. If there are no ah shi points, place two needles on each yin channels on both wrists. Needle should touch tendon or bone.
- Foot Pain: If the sole of the foot is in pain, needle both the top and the bottom of the opposite foot. Needle the top or bottom of both hands in the correct corresponding anatomical areas. For pain of the extremities, it is better to use anatomical points, which match the area of the pain on the affected area.
- Big Toe Pain: 5 needles on the opposite thumb joint mirroring where the pain of the toe is.
- Acute phase: Needle Wuhu (T 11.27) on opposite side. Bleed Wuling (T DT.04) on same side.
- Remittent phase: Yizhong (T 77.05), Erzhong (T 77.06), Sanzhong (T 77.07)
- Knee pain: Jianzhong (T 44.06), Xinxi (T 11.09)
- Ankle pain: Wuhu (T 11.27), Zhongbai (T 22.06), Xiabai (T 22.07)
- Big toe pain: Wuhu (T 11.27)
- Knee pain: Tianhuangfu [shenguan] (T 77.18), between Dabai (T 22.04) and Linggu (T 22.05), Neiguan (PC 6), Yanglingquan (GB 34). Bleed Gaohuangshu (BL 43) with cupping
- Ankle pain: Tianhuangfu [shenguan] (T 77.18), Xiaojie (T 22.13)*
- Big toe pain: Tianhuangfu [shenguan] (T 77.18), Wuhu (T 11.27) points 3,4,5, Baihui (GV 20)
- Gout
- Big toe: Bleed Taichong (LR 3) area. Needle contralaterally Linggu (T 22.05), Sanchasan (T 22.17)*.
- Knee: Bleed popliteal fossa. Needle Quchi (LI 11), Sanchasan (T 22.17)*.
- Needle contralateral to the pain. If the pain is in the center, needle bilaterally or the side with the more ah shi points. If the pain is bilateral, needle bilaterally.
- Tianhuang (T 77.17), Dihuang (T 77.19), Renhuang (T 77.21), Tianhuang (T 88.13), Minghuang (T 88.12), Qihuang (T 88.14), Simashang (T 88.18), Simazhong (T 88.17), Simaxia (T 88.19), Sizhi (T 77.20). Bleed the affected area. The more the bleeding, the better the result.
- Needle ah shi points using the sedating technique (counter-clockwise).
