Auricular medicine, a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), has a rich history dating back nearly 2000 years, initially existing in a rudimentary form. However, it experienced a renaissance in the mid-20th century thanks to the observations and proposals made by French physician Dr. Paul Nogier regarding the somatotopic correspondences of the ear. This marked the modern revival of auricular therapy.
Dr. Li-Chun Huang, initially on the path to becoming a surgeon in Western medicine, encountered a twist of fate. During a field trip, she unfortunately broke one of her fingers in a car accident. As a result, she was reassigned to the TCM department in the school, where she coincidentally studied under one of China's foremost auricular medical practitioners. This unexpected turn of events proved to be a loss for Western medicine but a tremendous gain for TCM.
Since the 1960s, Dr. Huang has dedicated herself to extensive clinical research in renowned hospitals in China and the United States, meticulously documenting over three hundred auricular points. Her unique background in both Western medicine and TCM has enabled her to integrate these disciplines seamlessly, forming a comprehensive system that exhibits exceptional diagnostic and treatment values. Her system finds applications in diverse fields such as embryology, neurology, endocrinology, immunology, and more.
